summer : a seasonal series
The humidity arrived right on cue; with it came the cicada's song and the stormy nights.
Summer is the most nostalgic season of them all - a cycle of ocean swims and hammock siestas, too-hot-to-sleep nights and backyard water fights. Over the next few weeks I'll be sharing a few posts to celebrate the season including a review of my favourite sunscreens, notes from my naturopath and a collection of my favourite recipes, books and destinations.
In all its bohemian beauty, summer is here - equally joyous and frustrating (don't let the mozzies bite!)
What is your most treasured summer memory?

Beautiful picture. It always seems like you truly capture the spirit and essence of your children.
ReplyDeleteJust gorgeous. My favourite summer memories all involve water, family holidays collecting shellfish in clear cool water, or at home swimming the horses into the weir.

I love that you celebrate the seasons here.
ReplyDeleteAlready, last night, I had trouble sleeping, with the humid heat hanging heavy and a rogue mozzie buzzing in my ear. Summer is here, right on cue.
Looking forward to lots of tomatoes and mangoes, christmas pavlova covered in berries and of course, early morning beach swims.

So lovely Jodi to mark the seasons in this way. I believe it is so important to connect and acknowledge nature and the colours, tastes and smells of each season. A lovely post. Where is the photo of Poet taken? My most treasured summer memories are endless! I am particularly enjoying watching my boys as they delight in playing in the saltwater of our local bay and their growing confidence going under and learning to swim x
ReplyDeleteIt's taken at our local markets, held once-a-month in a small beachside town where we live. This area is full of floor cushions, low tables and hammocks and it borders the lake. The stall sells chai, chocolate dipped strawberries, homemade ice-cream and vegetarian curry. Needless to say, we often sit there for hours! x
DeleteIt is now our winter so I look forward to visiting here and feeling the sunshine and warmth.
ReplyDeleteGosh you manage to capture her so well! What a lovely place you are at, a market?
ReplyDeleteWow, Poet looks like such a big girl in that dress!
ReplyDeleteMy summer memories are all mixed together, in a jumble of books read on beaches, sweet berries, damp togs wrapped up in towels, ham sandwiches (from leftover Christmas day ham) and bare feet on scorching hot sand. And always family.
so pretty!
ReplyDeletePoet is looks angelic here!
ReplyDeleteAnd my favorite moment of summer would be last year of 2011. I was pregnant with my daughter then : )
My favourite memories are the long, lazy naps on the couch at my parent's place after a large Christmas lunch. It is my son's first Christmas this year, so I am unsure whether I will get that nap...we may have to lay down with him for his to continue the tradition!
ReplyDeleteLovely post - summer is such a memory-filled time of year. Much love xox
I am being smothered under this muggy humid weather! Help! Kellie xx
ReplyDeleteDiving into the cool, cool ocean on a sweltering day and then bopping behind the break, blissfully not hot!
ReplyDeleteEating mangos on the beach. The smell and taste of salt, sun and mango intermingled with sunscreen is forever summer to me!
ReplyDeleteMangoes. And my Mother in Law just arrived from Bowen, with a bag full from her tree! Bliss
ReplyDeleteIt's late here and still so hot - we're eating mangoes cold from the fridge. Bliss!
DeleteI'm from America, so while its not quite the same, summer is just as nostalgic. My favorite summer memories from youth are gardening with my dad in the backyard. Lately, though, with my two little boys, my favorite memories are sitting in the shade of our deck, watching the deer pass through the yard.
ReplyDeleteOh, and this photo is lovely. I love the carpets and pillows on the ground. I need to do that for our next picnic party.
ReplyDeleteI love this, very summer-y and the colors are all gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI guess my most treasured memory of summer, not necessarily this past but last year, was falling in infatuation with a good friend and exploring and hiking and hanging out and having a great summer. :)
Poet looks like a little angel all glowing white in her pretty dress. I would spend hours lazying on those cushions, eating, drinking and chatting. Bliss..........
ReplyDeleteAhhh! Amazing :) Everything is my favorite summer memory. I love summer so much. Where I'm from, it's actually summer 75% of the year...I miss it!
ReplyDeletebeautiful! Summer is my favorite season. I love babies in swimsuits, running in and outdoors without a coat.
ReplyDeleteSunscreen and sand between your toes. (Freaking love that photo, btw)
ReplyDeleteI literally gasped when I saw this photo! x
